Andrew Mark Yates Blacksell, a human geographer with unusually widespread interests and expertise, and a man of enormous character and warmth, died of cancer on 12 January 2008, aged 65. Mark went to Balliol College, Oxford from Barnstaple Grammar School to read geography in 1961 and stayed on to undertake doctoral research.
