  • Evidence of Pellagra on 19th Century Human Crania From Northern Italy by Combining Stable Isotope and Paleopathological Analyses

    Pellagra is a disease caused by a nutritional deficiency, with fatal outcome due to multiple‐organ failure, that affected European rural areas until the early decades of the 20th century, especially Veneto region (Italy).     The Middle Neolithic lakeshore site of Molino Casarotto (4700 − 4400 cal BCE; Vicenza province, northern Italy) preserves some of the most informative deposits related to Neolithic daily life in Italy.
