Risks beyond the ditch
The evolution of Neolithic to Bronze Age settlement organization in Central Europe has revealed ditches as an important component of settlement structures. The various shapes and sizes of these features contribute to different understandings of their functions, mainly referring to ditches as elements of fortifications or ritual practices. Based on a newly discovered Copper Age feature at Kamianets-Podilskyi (Tatarysky), Ukraine, our paper contrib…
Exploring the Potential of the Middle and Upper Palaeolithic Site Korolevo II (Ukraine)
Late Glacial and Holocene vegetational and climate changes and their impact on material cultures in the Crimean Mountains (founded on pollen data from cave deposits)
Paleolithic Site Neporotovo 7 in the Middle Dniester Region (preliminary results)
The article is devoted to the results of the study of Neporotovo 7 - a new multilayered Palaeolithic site in the Middle Dniester region, situated 20 km east of the site of Molodovo V. One Upper Palaeolithic (Gravettian?) and four Middle Palaeolithic horizons (AH 2, 3, 3а, 7) were identified in the loess sediments dated to the Upper and Middle Pleistocene. The thickness of the sediments is about 10 m. The collection from the uppermost Middle Palae…
Revisiting the chronostratigraphy of Late Pleistocene loess-paleosol sequences in southwestern Ukraine
Due to the general lack of other high-resolution paleoclimate records, loess-paleosol sequences are crucial archives for disentangling past climate variability in southeastern Europe. Here we present results of a multi proxy sedimentological and geochemical investigation of Kurortne loess-paleosol section from southwestern Ukraine, coupled with detailed optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) dating. OSL investigations were carried out on quartz …
Late Pleistocene and Holocene environmental changes recorded in deposits of the Bukovynka Cave (the East-Carpathian foreland, Ukraine)
The Upper Palaeolithic site Doroshivtsi III
An evaluation of geochemical weathering indices in loess–paleosol studies
Stratigraphy, and spatial and temporal paleoclimatic trends in Southeastern/Eastern European loess–paleosol sequences
Environmental changes in the Crimean mountains during the Last Interglacial–middle pleniglacial as recorded by pollen and lithopedology
The Ukraine Quaternary explored
Upper Pleistocene loess–palaeosol and vegetational successions in the Middle Dnieper Area, Ukraine
Late Pleistocene Environments of the Central Ukraine
Late Pleistocene Environments of the Central Ukraine
The Vyazivok loess sequence from the Dnieper Plain, Ukraine, documents regional environmental changes during the late Pleistocene and Holocene. Pedological and palynological analyses and low-field magnetic susceptibility document changes from dense temperate forest during the last interglacial maximum to open, harsh, loess–steppe during the latest Pleistocene. The Vyazivok section overlies hillwash derived from a lower Pleistocene terrace and con…
