  • Daillant Isabelle, Sens dessus dessous

    Open Access•Isabella Lepri•ARTICLE•Journal de la Société des…•2007

In this book, Isabelle Daillant succeeds in combining theoretically sophisticated anthropological analysis and rich and personal ethnography, to explore in innovative and original ways the relationship between sociality and spatiality among the Chimane of lowland Bolivia. It is a very scholarly work and in many ways a very readable one too, although the extensive and thorough treatment of Chimane kinship will probably appeal more to the specialis…

  • Identity and otherness among the Ese Ejja of Northern Bolivia

    Isabella Lepri•ARTICLE•Ethnos•2006•Citada por: 1•Referencias: 14

This paper explores the construction of self-identity in relation to others in a Bolivian Amazonian society, through the ambivalent attitudes the Ese Ejja people display towards mestizo and white Bolivians. I argue that the Ese Ejja's ambivalence reflects the mutable, contextualand r elationalnature ofidentity, understood as self-image. The relationship described is characterised by self-abasement on the part of the Ese Ejja. This is partly attri…

  • Identidade e alteridade entre os Ese Ejja da Bolívia setentrional

    Open Access•Isabella Lepri•ARTICLE•Mana•2005•Referencias: 9

  • The Meanings of Kinship Among the Ese Ejja of Northern Bolivia

    Open Access•Isabella Lepri•ARTICLE•Journal of the Royal Anthropologica…•2005•Citada por: 8•Referencias: 25

This article focuses on the construction of relatedness among an Amazonian people of northern Bolivia. In analysing the Ese Ejja's kinship terminology and practices, it engages with the widespread stress on the processual nature of relatedness encountered in Amazonian studies. The article shows that, for the Ese Ejja, kinship relations are made through shared practices, although in some important respects kinship is considered to be given at birt…
