A qualitative literature review of how hearing codas navigate deafness stigma

Employment inequality is recognised as a problem for deaf people. What is rarely understood is that what often lies behind that inequality is less a “deaf-centered” problem, but rather the issue of “hearing privilege”. Translating Deaf Culture
This ethnodrama is a script writing project based on qualitative research that explores deaf people's experience of working as interpreter in Ireland. A collection of interview data was used to develop the ethnodrama by constructing scenes that reveal a series of interactive moments that capture the challenges faced by deaf interpreters. The ways in which we approach children and childhood as variables of social analysis has undergone profound change in the last quarter century in the Republic of Ireland. This performative ethnography inquires into the secret lore and language of deaf children's lives in one residential school.
