Outmigration, Human Development and Trade
Controversy surrounds the large increase in international immigration, but little is known about the many drivers of this mobility. While most migration studies have focused on economic motivations, a small literature addresses the impact of human development and, indirectly, capability deprivation. This case study of southern Honduras examines migration patterns between 1988 and 1997 to assess the impacts of human development, non‐traditional ag…

The Economic Impact of Mariculture on a Small Regional Economy
Efficiency and equity tradeoffs
The economics of the adoption of BMPs

This article presents an in‐depth case study of Honduran mariculture to explain the persistence of these conflicts among resource users. Different explanations for the persistence of ex…
Communal Forest Management
Natural resource tenure and economic feasibility of resource-based activities are two of the most important issues in the current debate around environmental degradation and rural poverty. While many analyses have blamed the 'tragedy of the commons' and government mismanagement for environmental destruction, this paper provides a case study of resin tapping in Honduras which formulates the hypotheses that common property regimes can be successful…
