While there has been growing attention to research on structural racism and health inequities and the importance of naming structural racism as a driver of population health inequities, research focusing on structural racism and intimate partner violence (IPV) in United States (US)-based immigrant communities of color is lacking. This scoping review examined existing literature that names, operationalizes, and attributes structural racism as a de…
Intimate partner violence and time to making an abortion appointment in the United States
IPV was associated with a 2-week delay in scheduling an abortion procedure following making the decision to obtain an abortion. In the increasingly restrictive policy climate, IPV-related delays in scheduling services may make abortions functionally inaccessible. Universal IPV screening and education provisions in healthcare settings (including primary care, gynecology and obstetrics) and community-based settings and for individuals seeking abort…
County-level political group density, partisan polarization, and individual-level mortality among adults in the United States
Among all study participants, political group density and polarization at the county level in 2000 were not linked to individual-level mortality. At the same time, we found that Democratic party affiliation may be protective against the adverse effects of high polarization, particularly in counties with high concentrations of Democrats. Future research should further explore these associations to potentially identify new structural interventions …
Immigrant Status and Social Ties
Diverse social ties are critical facilitators of well-being among older adults. Social ties might be especially important for aging immigrants who face multiple social and economic vulnerabilities over the life course. We investigated social ties (e.g., partners, children, other family, and friends) by immigrant status among older adults in the United States (U.S.). Data come from the 2018 Health and Retirement Study (N = 4,006), a national sampl…
No Safe Spaces
Immigrants in the United States suffer high rates of domestic violence (DV). Using data from six focus groups with 38 DV service providers, we examined how immigrant survivors navigate an often-hostile political climate and identified structural barriers to healing and help-seeking. Findings indicated that structural discrimination, social exclusion, and dehumanization compound existing trauma and negatively impact survivors’ well-being. Results …

Engaging and Supporting Young Children and their Families in Early Childhood Mental Health Services
This study explores the role of family partners, peer professionals with lived experiences of raising a child with behavioral health needs, and their value in primary and community-care based mental health services for young children aged 0-8 years. Interviews and focus groups were conducted with staff, leadership, and caregiver participants (n = 38) from two early childhood mental health programs and analyzed using thematic analysis. Five interd…
Is divisive politics making Americans sick? Associations of perceived partisan polarization with physical and mental health outcomes among adults in the United States
Stigma-related mental health knowledge and attitudes among primary health workers and community health volunteers in rural Kenya

AIMS: This study compared variations in stigma-related mental health knowledge and attitudes between primary health workers (HWs) and community health volunteers (CHVs). METHODS: Participants ( n = 44 HWs and n = 60 CHVs) completed the self-report Mental Health Knowledge Schedule and the Reported and Intended Behavior Scale, al…
Detecting common mental disorders in primary care in India

This study aimed to compare the screening properties of five widely used questionnaires. Method Adult attenders in five primary-care settings in India were recruited through systematic sampling. Four questionnaires were administered, in pairs, in random order to participants: the General Health Questionnaire (GHQ, 12 items); the Pr…
