  • The genetic landscape of neuro-related proteins in human plasma

Open Access•Luca Repetto, Jiantao Chen et al.•ARTICLE•Nature Human Behaviour•2024•Referencias: 70

  • Polygenic prediction of educational attainment within and between families from genome-wide association analyses in 3 million individuals

Open Access•Aysu Okbay, Yeda Wu et al.•ARTICLE•Nature Genetics•2022

We conduct a genome-wide association study (GWAS) of educational attainment (EA) in a sample of ~3 million individuals and identify 3,952 approximately uncorrelated genome-wide-significant single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs). A genome-wide polygenic predictor, or polygenic index (PGI), explains 12–16% of EA variance and contributes to risk prediction for ten diseases. Direct effects (i.e., controlling for parental PGIs) explain roughly half th…

  • Attitudes to ageing, biomarkers of ageing and mortality

    Open Access•Kyle J J McLachlan, K McLachlan et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Epidemiology and…•2020•Referencias: 37

OBJECTIVE: To investigate whether people with more positive attitudes to ageing are biologically younger as defined by leucocyte telomere length, accelerated DNA methylation GrimAge (AgeAccelGrim) and brain-predicted age difference, and whether these biomarkers explain relationships between attitudes to ageing and mortality. METHODS: We used linear regression to examine cross-sectionally attitudes to ageing (measured using the Attitudes to Ageing…

  • Genome-wide meta-analysis of depression identifies 102 independent variants and highlights the importance of the prefrontal brain regions

    Open Access•David M Howard, Mark J Adams et al.•ARTICLE•Nature Neuroscience•2019

  • Genomic structural equation modelling provides insights into the multivariate genetic architecture of complex traits

    Open Access•Andrew D Grotzinger, Mijke Rhemtulla et al.•ARTICLE•Nature Human Behaviour•2019•Citada por: 24•Referencias: 56

  • Markers of Psychological Differences and Social and Health Inequalities

Open Access•René Mõttus, Riccardo E Marioni et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Personality•2017

Associations between markers of ostensible psychological characteristics and social and health inequalities are pervasive but difficult to explain. In some cases, there may be causal influence flowing from social and health inequalities to psychological differences, whereas sometimes it may be the other way around. Here, we focus on the possibility that some markers that we often consider as indexing different domains of individual differences ma…

  • Genome-wide association study identifies 74 loci associated with educational attainment

Open Access•Aysu Okbay, Jonathan P Beauchamp et al.•ARTICLE•Nature•2016

  • Current Versus Lifetime Depression, Apoe Variation, and Their Interaction on Cognitive Performance in Younger and Older Adults

Open Access•Margaret Luciano, Michelle Luciano et al.•ARTICLE•Psychosomatic Medicine•2015

OBJECTIVE: An interaction effect of depressive symptoms and APOE e4 allele status on cognitive decline has been shown in old age: e4 allele carriers with more depressive symptoms have faster cognitive decline than those with either depression or the e4 allele. We test this interaction effect on four cognitive domains, using a clinical depression measure comparing current versus lifetime depression. METHODS: 14,379 individuals aged 18 to 59 years,…

  • Social activity, cognitive decline and dementia risk

    Open Access•Riccardo E Marioni, Cécile Proust‐Lima et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2015

We observed a complex series of relationships between social-environment variables and cognitive decline and dementia. In the whole population, factors such as increased engagement in social, physical, or intellectual pursuits were related to a decreased risk of dementia. However, in a sub-population analysis, the social-environment variables were not linked to the heterogeneous patterns of cognitive decline and dementia risk that defined the sub…

  • O3-4.2 Cognitive reserve and cognitive decline

Riccardo E Marioni, R Marioni et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Epidemiology and…•2011

Differences in potentially modifiable factors, such as education, occupation, and late-life social engagement have been associated with cognitive decline and dementia in late life. Whether there is a collective effect of these variables on cognition–cognitive reserve—is unclear. This talk will break reserve into its individual components and compare the importance of each factor in models of cognitive change. Data came from 13 004 participants of…

  • Age-associated cognitive decline

Ian J Deary, Janie Corley et al.•ARTICLE•British Medical Bulletin•2009

INTRODUCTION: Age-associated cognitive decline-or normal (non-pathological, normative, usual) cognitive ageing-is an important human experience which differs in extent between individuals. The determinants of the differences in age-related cognitive decline are not fully understood. Progress in the field is taking place across many areas of biomedical and psychosocial sciences. AREAS OF AGREEMENT AND CONTROVERSY: The phenotype of normal cognitive…

  • Peripheral Levels of Fibrinogen, C-Reactive Protein, and Plasma Viscosity Predict Future Cognitive Decline in Individuals Without Dementia

    Riccardo E Marioni, Marlene C Stewart et al.•ARTICLE•Psychosomatic Medicine•2009

Objective: To determine whether circulating levels of the biomarkers C-reactive protein (CRP), fibrinogen, plasma viscosity, and hematocrit were associated with cognitive decline in middle-aged to elderly people. Methods: Subjects consisted of 2312 men and women aged 50 to 80 years participating in the Aspirin for Asymptomatic Atherosclerosis Trial, all of whom were free of symptomatic cardiovascular disease at baseline. Biomarker levels and cogn…

  • Reverse Causation in the Association Between C-Reactive Protein and Fibrinogen Levels and Cognitive Abilities in an Aging Sample

Margaret Luciano, Michelle Luciano et al.•ARTICLE•Psychosomatic Medicine•2009

OBJECTIVE: To test the hypothesis that increased levels of inflammatory and hemostatic markers are associated with poorer cognitive performance and to assess the influence of childhood intelligence quotient (IQ) and current cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors on this relationship. Blood inflammatory markers have been shown to predict late-life cognition, although the mechanism through which this occurs is unknown. METHODS: Levels of the bio…
