Unfulfilled promises
The conclusion of the 2014 National Education Plan (NEP), in June 2024 (which was extended until December 31/2025, by the law 14.934/2024), marked a decisive moment for re-evaluating Brazil's educational progress. The NEP was conceived as a comprehensive national strategy and established goals to improve quality, expand access, strengthen professional training, reduce historical social inequalities, and thus modernize the educational system at al…
Acute effect of moderate-intensity aerobic exercise on state anxiety and anger symptoms evoked by aversive stimuli in young women
BACKGROUND: Aerobic exercise is widely recognized for its acute anxiolytic and mood-regulating effects, typically demonstrated in neutral emotional contexts. However, it remains unclear whether such effects are preserved when exercise is performed concurrently with emotionally aversive stimuli, a situation that more closely mirrors real-world stress conditions. OBJECTIVE: To examine whether a single session of moderate-intensity continuous aerobi…
Intensity of physical activity, V̇O2max, and mental health in women
Anxiety and depression are among the leading global public health problems, especially among women. This study aimed to investigate the effect of intensity of physical activity, V̇O 2 max, and motherhood on mental health in women. Additionally, the study sought to develop a predictive equation for anxiety and depression in women based on the evaluated variables. The study included 167 healthy women (mean age: 43.3 ± 15.6 years; weight: 63.0 ± 12.…

An analysis of the 6-h ultra-marathon race using a machine learning approach
Background Ultra-marathon running popularity is increasing, with the 6-h run being the shortest time-limited ultra-marathon. Since very little is known regarding the country from which the fastest 6-h runners originate, the fastest age group, and where the fastest 6-h race courses are located, this study aims to close this gap. Methods A machine learning model based on the XG Boost algorithm was built to predict running speed based on the athleté…
Association of religiosity on anxiety and depressive symptoms in the Brazilian population
The relationship between religiosity, anxiety, and depression appears to be more influential in shaping the perception of depression among men and the perception of anxiety among women. Therefore, the practice of religiosity should not be discouraged and has the potential to be a complementary therapeutic intervention strategy
Regular physical activity and its components as predictors of depressive symptoms in young Brazilians after mandatory military service
Promoting structured physical activity, especially sports, may be an effective strategy to reduce depressive symptoms among young adults after mandatory military service. However, further research is required to explore the underlying mechanisms and develop optimized interventions for this population
A Single Session of Beach Tennis with Recreational Athletes Improves Anxiety Symptoms in Women but Not in Men
Beach tennis demonstrated an anxiolytic effect in women, with significant reductions in anxiety symptoms following both singles and doubles sessions. However, no such effects were observed in men. These findings suggest that beach tennis could be a viable intervention for managing anxiety symptoms in women. The study was registered in the Brazilian Clinical Trials Registry (registration code: U1111-1293-7949)
Sports and leisure coverage in Brazil
The recent Brazilian presidential elections held in 2022, won by Luís Inácio Lula da Silva (Lula), raised various issues on social media concerning public policy, such as public financial support for sports and leisure coverage (i.e., financial support). In addition, the Brazilian presidential elections were marked by intense polarization. As Brazil has several political ideologies (left-, center-, and right-wing), we investigated whether public …
Effect of Supervised and Unsupervised Exercise Training in Outdoor Gym on the Lifestyle of Elderly People
elderly people submitted to supervised and unsupervised physical exercise programs using outdoor gym equipment present positive changes in lifestyle parameters compared to physical inactive elderly people
The Effect of Muscle Strength on Marathon Race-Induced Muscle Soreness
Marathon runners who presented higher muscular strength for the knee extensor muscles presented lower muscle soreness 24 h after the race, but not after 48 h or 72 h after the race. Therefore, the muscle soreness level 3 days after a marathon race does not depend on muscle strength
