Information from surveys of undergraduate college students is used to investigate whether or not service-learning affects students' commitment to future civic engagement, self-efficacy, and social empowerment. Results indicate that some applications of service-learning do have positive effects on students' commitment to future community involvement, efficacy, and empowerment. A telephone survey of Michigan residents provided statistics about the economic conditions and undesirable behavior of white Americans and asked respondents to estimate the corresponding statistics for blacks. This research examined how the interpersonal dynamics between surgeons and surgical nurses in the operating room and their attitudes toward elderly patients affected the quality of care delivered. Qualitative data were gathered through in-depth interviews with surgeons and surgical nurses and from 5 months of participant observation in an operating room. Exploration of the Relationship between Choral Singing and Successful Aging
This paper describes a retirement village community chorus of 49 with the goal of understanding the place of choral activities in the lives of these older people. Group musical activity provides a link to previous satisfying experiences and serves as a preventive measure against alienation.
