  • Best Practices for Scientific Collaboration and Ethical Considerations When Working With Human Remains in Southeast Asia

Open Access•Michael Rivera, Tatfeef Haque et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2026

The roles and responsibilities we occupy as scientists working directly with human remains are diverse, requiring careful ethical consideration. In Southeast Asian contexts, it has been important for us experts and scholars to be in constant correspondence and collaboration, deriving scientific insights into human health, life histories, and body forms on one hand, and balancing ethical and community‐based concerns on the other. We have learnt—ou…

  • Emic–Etic Perspectives on Southeast Asian Cultural Attitudes Surrounding Human Remains

Open Access•Tatfeef Haque, Edwin Miguel Anadon et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2026•Referencias: 4

Community ethics and cultural attitudes vary across contexts in which professionals work with human remains. Southeast Asia is home to millions; thus, there are challenges when attempting to understand and articulate the diversity in cultures, ideologies, and ethics surrounding the dead. Our semi‐autoethnographic and qualitative research addresses these challenges through a critical self‐examination of how we conduct our work with human remains, …

  • Testing and reconsidering atlatl dart ballistics

    Open Access•Devin B Pettigrew, John C Whittaker et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Anthropological…•2026•Referencias: 45

The atlatl and dart weapon is characterized by variability in form and application. • Heavier darts carry less velocity but substantially more energy, predicted by the force-velocity relationship in throwing. • Atlatlist height and weight tends to correlate with greater dart energy and velocity. • Both sex and experience impact kinetic energy but are overridden by variability between individuals. • Research that stereotypes weapons and overlooks …

  • Exploring Mutual and Exclusive Biological Information in Cranial Metric and Morphological Variables

    K E Stull, Kyra Stull et al.•ARTICLE•Forensic Anthropology•2024

Evidence suggests that both craniometric and cranial morphoscopic (MMS) traits elucidate information about cranial phenotypic variation and are appropriate proxies of genetic variation. Yet, the types of variation underlying the expression of craniometric and MMS traits are unknown. Recent data sets of matched skeletal metric and MMS data enable a holistic exploration into the cranial phenotype. Subsequently, the current study strived to provide …

  • Designing databases and using generalized estimating equations for entheseal datasets

    Open Access•Sara K Becker, K E Stull et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2023•Referencias: 8

Studying entheseal changes (EC) in human skeletal remains involves questions surrounding how researchers should collect, process, and evaluate these data as there are no set standards. Osteoarcheological research should also be able to answer population‐level queries using entheses, such as if group A was moving their body in different ways from group B? Or are there age‐related tasks or gendered labors? However, not all entheseal data can be eas…

  • Pioneers of Color

Matthew C Go, Isis Dwyer et al.•ARTICLE•Forensic Anthropology•2023•Citada por: 2

Popular renditions on the history of forensic anthropology have traced the discipline's roots back to early European anatomy and nineteenth to twentieth-century American research and applications to the legal system, often highlighting the works of several recurring figures. These forebearers are overwhelmingly composed of white men to the exclusion of, as we argue here, pioneers of color. As a counter to prevailing Eurocentric narratives, we pre…

  • On Weird Anthropologists and Their White Skeletons

Matthew Go, Matthew C Go et al.•ARTICLE•Forensic Anthropology•2021•Citada por: 1

Most forensic anthropologists and the populations they study are WEIRD-that is, Western, educated, industrialized, rich, and democratic. In their interventions into the WEIRD, Clancy and Davis (2019) contend that WEIRD is a euphemism for white and that it is the white, Western European-derived scientists and subjects that skew the predominating narrative of the human condition. While they demonstrate how biological anthropology can decenter the W…

  • The effects of vertical position in the intertidal zone on the δ18O and δ13C composition of Mytilus californianus shell carbonate

    Open Access•C S Jazwa, C A Wolfe et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Archaeological Science…•2020•Referencias: 17

  • Salaries in Forensic Anthropology and Academic Anthropology

    N V Passalacqua, Nicholas Passalacqua et al.•ARTICLE•Forensic Anthropology•2020•Citada por: 4

This project examined the salaries of forensic anthropologists in the United States. Additionally, the salaries of forensic anthropologists employed in academia were compared to those of other academic anthropologists. The goal of this project was to develop baseline data in terms of salaries for forensic anthropologists while also examining various factors that may affect forensic anthropology salaries. Salary information is important because sa…
