    The paper is based on a study which used primary and secondary sources to examine the influence of culture on food habits in Tanzania and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.The study revealed that culture impacted on food habits, through food production, distribution, and consumption.     The study used three villages in Western Usambara, Tanzania, as case studies to investigate the knowledge and perceptions of rural communities on consumption of wild-food resources.     The paper employed a participatory approach to investigate the perceptions of the Wandorobo, an indigenous hunting community in Tanzania, on the use of wild meat resources. It was found that hunting for game meat and other wildlife resources played a vital part in the livelihood of the Wandorobo. Division of labour was on gender and age.
