Relative Income Expectations, Expected Malpractice Premium Costs, and Other Determinants of Physician Specialty Choice
We analyze the effects of relative income expectations, expected malpractice premium cost, and other economic and noneconomic factors on physician specialty choice. The data for this paper are taken from responses of medical students who completed the Association of American Medical Colleges' Medical School Questionnaire and graduated from medical school in 1995. Determinants of Spells of Poverty Following Divorce
Introduction Between 1967 and 1984, the proportion of single-parent families increased from 10 to 21 percent of all families (Congressional Budget Office, 1985). The poverty rate of all female-headed families in 1983 was 28 percent, compared to 8 percent for two-parent families. A simultaneous equation model of spousal time allocation
Socioeconomic Background, Schooling, Experience and Monetary Rewards in the United States
Using a selective sample from the 1977 Panel Study of Income Dynamics, the authors investigate the relations among schooling, job experience, socioeconomic status (SES), IQ, and earnings in the United States. In contrast to the results for the United Kingdom reported by John Papanicolaou and George Psacharopoulos, we find no interaction effect on earnings between schooling and SES. The Effect of Fertility on the Time Use of Working Wives
By applying data from the Panel Study of Income Dynamics to a household utility maximization model, it was found that number and presence of young children tend to increase, whereas “quality” of children tends to decrease, the time wives devote to household production (including child care)
