  • Domestic Cattle ( Bos taurus ) Late Neolithic Burial at Krzczonowice, the Greater Trochanter of Femur Lesion

Open Access•Dominik Poradowski, Artur Jedynak et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2025•Referencias: 7

A domestic cattle skeleton was found in a pit at the archeological site Krzczonowice 63 (Sandomierz Upland, Poland) and was interpreted as sacrificial in nature on the basis of the archeological context. It was dated to the Late Neolithic period (Globular Amphora Culture). The right femur displays pathological lesions in the form of loss of the apical part of the greater trochanter. These were subjected to macroscopic examination, computed tomogr…

  • Bovine burial in Krzczonowice. Archaeozoological study of a Late Neolithic animal deposit

Open Access•A Chrószcz, Dominik Poradowski et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Archaeological Science…•2025•Referencias: 5

  • Diseases and Traumas of Pleistocene Megafauna

    Open Access•Kamilla Pawłowska, A Chrószcz et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2025•Referencias: 52

Analysis of pathologies can shed light on the health, trauma, and disease states of animals in the past. This study aims to explore the health status of megafauna during the Pleistocene and Holocene in Poland and to elucidate the diseases afflicting them, in order to gain a broader picture of the physical condition of these animals. For this purpose, species that show pathological lesions were macroscopically studied, and CT images were used for …

  • Skull of a brachycephalic dog unearthed in the ancient city of Tralleis, Türkiye

Open Access•Onar, Nurettin Öztürk et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Archaeological Science…•2023•Referencias: 6

  • Withers height estimation in medieval horse samples from Poland

    Open Access•A Chrószcz, P Baranowski et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2021•Citada por: 1•Referencias: 3

Horse withers height is frequently estimated based on skeletal remains during archeozoological analyses. The routinely used methods (Vitt and Kiesewalter) do not allow withers height estimation without complete long bone and skull osteometry. The modified Wyrost and Kucharczyk formula is based on the internal dimensions of the cranial cavity. This method can be used even when the neurocranium is the only surviving portion of the skull. Earlier in…

  • Identification of probable telangiectatic osteosarcoma from a dog skull from multicultural settlement Polwica-Skrzypnik in Lower Silesia, Poland

Open Access•Maciej Janeczek, Hofint HofMeOls et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2019

This report presents canid cranial skeletal pathology from an excavation associated with the Przeworsk culture (III c. BC - V c. AD). The dog skull, an intentional inhumation, was dated to the Roman influence and the Migration period (I - V c. AD. The dog was a relatively large animal with a shoulder height calculated as approximately 60 cm. Massive bone changes localized on the facial surface of the left maxilla required a multistage diagnostic …
