  • Language concatenates perceptual features into representations during comprehension

Open Access•Bruno R Bocanegra, Fenna H Poletiek et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Memory and Language•2022

Although many studies have investigated the activation of perceptual representations during language comprehension, to our knowledge only one previous study has directly tested how perceptual features are combined into representations during comprehension. In their classic study, Potter and Faulconer [(1979). Understanding noun phrases. Journal of Verbal Learning and Verbal Behavior, 18, 509–521.] investigated the perceptual representation of adj…

  • Intelligent problem-solvers externalize cognitive operations

  • Hypothesis testing as risk behaviour with regard to beliefs

    Open Access•Fenna H Poletiek, Mariëtte Berndsen et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Behavioral Decision…•2000•Referencias: 2

In this paper hypothesis-testing behaviour is compared to risk-taking behaviour. It is proposed that choosing a suitable test for a given hypothesis requires making a preposterior analysis of two aspects of such a test: the probability of obtaining supporting evidence and the evidential value of this evidence. This consideration resembles the one a gambler makes when choosing among bets, each having a probability of winning and an amount to be wo…
