This paper presents a gendered infrastructural perspective on internal education migration in India. It demonstrates the power of merit to spur female agency, rekindle failed aspirations and establish migration flows despite family reluctance. English Linguistic Imperialism from Below
The book shows how English has been newly constituted as a dominant language in post-market reform India. Political economic transitions experienced as radical social mobility fuelled intense non-elite desire for English schooling. Rather than English schooling leading to social mobility, new experiences of mobility necessitated English schooling.

This paper documents play in the context of technoscience education in India. Drawing on data from an ethnography of a pharma college, it describes youthful, pedagogic, and professional play. Youthful masti subverted rigor. At the college, it was amplified into a festival and monetized by social networking sites. Pedagogic and professional play could subvert and rescue rigor. Through a discussion of the articles in this collection, the introduction explores the ways in which the inhabitations of liberalisation require and necessitate intensive self-fashioning from citizens.
