    This article relays a story about race and empire in the air. It uses the openness of creative nonfiction to mix and link ostensibly disconnected ethnographic and archival moments. Focused on diaspora and flight, it ties the onset of airline travel to the recent rise of aerial deportations and deaths. It shows why the differentiation, discrimination, and domination of racial others took to the sky, leaving us to wonder what befalls humanity aloft

    Caribbean Airways was founded in colonial Jamaica in the summer of 1930. It suffered a curious demise, as a new business in a nascent industry and one of the first airlines in the British West Indies. Government officials in Jamaica asked the imperial government in Britain to bail out the colonial airline, in an attempt to save this groundbreaking enterprise.
