Charting Urban Space-Time Population Shifts With Trip Generation Models
Travel diaries were administered to 2754 households in San Diego by the San Diego Association of Governments one day in 1986. These surveys are used to document population shifts throughout the 24-hour day and for documenting the maximum population for each census tract. Basic information is provided on the subpopulation of non welfare poor and on one type of residential arrangement. The informal social structures, adaptive mechanisms and spatial mobility in a hotel for non welfare poor are examined, and a set of recommendations are developed that emphasize planning strategies geared to the adaptive strenghts of the marginally subsistent, but self-reliant poor. World Map Projections on the Computer
The author describes the characteristics of a new interactive software system of FORTRAN subroutines that is useful for most kinds of computer plotting. Of special interest is the system's capacity to plot map projections with areal distributions, while at the same time computing summary statistics about the distribution.
