Preliminary Cross-Sectional Validation of the CROPS 14-Item for Juvenile Offenders
The Child Report of Posttraumatic Symptoms (CROPS) is an effective 26-item trauma assessment tool. Research has indicated a 14-item version of the CROPS for juvenile offenders with improved predictive accuracy for detecting trauma exposure among male offenders and commensurate accuracy for female offenders. However, the 14-item scale has yet to be validated for juvenile offenders with an established trauma measure. Cross-sectional retrospective d…
Predictive accuracy and factor structure of the Child Report of Posttraumatic Symptoms (CROPS) among adjudicated youth
Overall findings provide moderate support for the utility of the CROPS in accurately identifying previous trauma exposure(s) among adjudicated youth and provide preliminary support for a 14-item version of the CROPS for screening for trauma symptoms in adjudicated youth. (PsycINFO Database Record
Parental Monitoring and Perceptions Related to Juvenile Offenders Who Fight and Carry Weapons
Beliefs and Practices of the Parents of Violent and Oppositional Adolescents
Examining Readiness for Change
The authors describe use and development of the University of Rhode Island Change Assessment (E. I. McConnaughy, J. O. Prochaska. & W. F. Velicer. 1983) and examine the psychometric properties of scores from incarcerated male adolescents. Cluster analysts revealed 3 unique profiles (Precontemplators, Participators, and Undifferentiated). Im-plications for clinical use with adolescent populations are discussed
Building Connections
Female juvenile offending is an issue that is often ignored. The specific needs and issues of girls in the juvenile justice system commonly go unheard while court dispositions and therapeutic interventions often criminalize what might be viewed as survival skills. This article proposes a relational group approach to treatment. Such an approach conceptualizes offending behaviors among female adolescents as the result of negative unhealthy relation…
The Role of General Family Functioning in the Quality of the Mother-Daughter Relationship of Female African American Juvenile Offenders
Little investigative knowledge exists with regard to the roles that adolescent-parent relationships play in the development of female juvenile delinquency among African Americans. In the current investigation, the McMaster Family Assessment Device (FAD) and the Assessment of Interpersonal Relations were employed to examine 76 female African American juvenile offenders' perceptions of their existing family functioning characteristics and the quali…
The Early Maladaptive Schema Questionnaire-Short Form
N. B. Schmidt, T. E. Joiner, J. E. Young, and M. J. Telch (1995) provided preliminary construct validity for scores from J. E. Young's (1990) 205-item Early Maladaptive Schema Questionnaire. The present study extends this work by examining the construct validity of scores from the shorter 75-item version of this instrument—the Early Maladaptive Schema Questionnaire-Short Form (J. E. Young, 1994)
