  • Aarp Age-Friendly community designation and neighborhood resources to support healthy aging nationwide, 2012–2017

    Open Access•Alexandra Eastus, Yvonne L Michael et al.•ARTICLE•Health & Place•2026•Referencias: 2

These findings suggest a meaningful association between local Age-Friendly designation and the availability of resources that can support aging in place. Although we did not directly measure health outcomes, neighborhoods with greater resource density are likely to experience multiple health benefits, including improved quality of life for older adults

  • Twenty-five-year changes in alcohol environment in US metropolitan areas

Open Access•Jingjing Li, Mariana Lazo et al.•ARTICLE•Cities•2025•Citada por: 2•Referencias: 3

  • National trends and disparities in retail food environments in the USA between 1990 and 2014

Open Access•Joseph A Hirsch, Yuzhe Zhao et al.•ARTICLE•Public Health Nutrition•2023

Objective: To describe national disparities in retail food environments by neighbourhood composition (race/ethnicity and socio-economic status) across time and space. Design: We examined built food environments (retail outlets) between 1990 and 2014 for census tracts in the contiguous USA ( n 71 547). We measured retail food environment as counts of all food stores, all unhealthy food sources (including fast food, convenience stores, bakeries and…

  • Does Living near Trees and Other Vegetation Affect the Contemporaneous Odds of Asthma Exacerbation among Pediatric Asthma Patients

Open Access•Anneclaire J De Roos, Chén C Kenyon et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Urban Health•2022

  • Inequities in spatial accessibility to Covid-19 testing in 30 large US cities

    Open Access•Pricila H Mullachery, Ran Li et al.•ARTICLE•Social Science & Medicine•2022•Citada por: 7•Referencias: 40

Testing for SARS-CoV-2 infection has been a key strategy to mitigate and control the COVID-19 pandemic. Wide spatial and racial/ethnic disparities in COVID-19 outcomes have emerged in US cities. Previous research has highlighted the role of unequal access to testing as a potential driver of these disparities. We described inequities in spatial accessibility to COVID-19 testing locations in 30 large US cities. We used location data from Castlight …

  • Longitudinal associations of neighborhood environment features with pediatric body mass index

    Open Access•Kimberly Daniels, Félice Lê-Scherban et al.•ARTICLE•Health & Place•2021•Referencias: 5

  • Burden of Uncontrolled Hyperglycemia and Its Association with Patients Characteristics and Socioeconomic Status in Philadelphia, USA

Open Access•Longjian Liu, Fengge Wang et al.•ARTICLE•Health Equity•2020

Purpose: To examine the burden of uncontrolled hyperglycemia in patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) and their characteristics in a large urban city. Methods: A randomized sample of 4993 patients with DM ≥18 years old who received routine health care in a large university teaching hospital in the city of Philadelphia was analyzed. Uncontrolled hyperglycemia was classified as blood hemoglobin A1c >8%. The associations of uncontrolled hyperglycemia…

  • High Ambient Temperature and Infant Mortality in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Leah H Schinasi, Joan Rosen Bloch et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Public Health•2020•Citada por: 1•Referencias: 32

Objective. To quantify the association between heat and infant mortality and identify factors that influence infant vulnerability to heat. Methods. We conducted a time-stratified case–crossover analysis of associations between ambient temperature and infant mortality in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, during the warm months of 2000 through 2015. We used conditional logistic regression models to estimate associations of infant mortality with daily tem…

  • Spatial accessibility to pediatric primary care in Philadelphia

    Open Access•Abigail E Mudd, Yvonne L Michael et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal for Equity…•2019

A new measure of pediatric primary care accessibility demonstrates a persistent disparity in primary care access for predominantly non-Hispanic Black neighborhoods

  • Intraurban and Longitudinal Variability of Classical Pollutants in Kraków, Poland, 2000–2010

Open Access•Hyunok Choi, Steven Melly et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2015

In spite of a dramatic decrease in anthropogenic emissions, ambient concentrations of major pollutants have not changed within many urban locations. To clarify the relationship between ambient air quality trend and the population exposures, we compared the intraurban versus temporal variability of the collocated measurements of five major air pollutants including particulate matter (PM) with an aerodynamic diameter <10 μm (PM10), < 2.5 μm (PM2.5)…

  • Program practices and demographic factors associated with federal funding for the Safe Routes to School program in the United States

    Open Access•Angie L Cradock, Billy Fields et al.•ARTICLE•Health & Place•2012•Citada por: 3

In 2005, the United States Congress authorized $612 million for use in implementing the US Safe Routes to School program to address physical inactivity, air quality, safety and traffic near schools. Each US state developed administrative practices to implement the program. Based on state-specific annual obligations, on average, states have obligated 44% of available funds. State project obligations were directly associated with programmatic facto…
