Navigating sustainable manufacturing practices in small and medium‐sized enterprises
Sustainable manufacturing practices (SMPs) aim to minimize environmental effects throughout the manufacturing process by employing measures such as waste reduction, resource optimization, pollution prevention, energy‐efficient manufacturing processes and effective management of products at the end of their lifecycle. Although SMPs are widely studied in developed countries, their advocation and implementation are still in the early stages of devel…
What a Pandemic Has Taught Us About the Potential for Innovation in Rural Health
The COVID-19 pandemic coincided with a multi-national federally funded research project examining the potential for health and care services in small rural areas to identify and implement innovations in service delivery. The project has a strong focus on electronic health (eHealth) but covers other areas of innovation as well. The project has been designed as an ethnography to prelude a realist evaluation, asking the question under what condition…
Meat reduction, vegetarianism, or chicken avoidance

Design/methodology/approach An online survey was administered to a cross-sectional, census-balanced sample from…
Global estimates of mortality associated with long-term exposure to outdoor fine particulate matter
Exposure to ambient fine particulate matter (PM 2.5 ) is a major global health concern. Quantitative estimates of attributable mortality are based on disease-specific hazard ratio models that incorporate risk information from multiple PM 2.5 sources (outdoor and indoor air pollution from use of solid fuels and secondhand and active smoking), requiring assumptions about equivalent exposure and toxicity. We relax these contentious assumptions by co…

Acceleration has been rightly termed one of the fundamental experiences of modernity; and perhaps the particular challenge which modernist poetry puts before the reader can be best approached through an analogy to parallel developments in modern music, science and technology. In the music of Schonberg and Bartok for example, on the threshold of atonality, the harmonic shifts became so compressed, telescoped and elided as to become, for the averag…

International Law and Development
Rudolf Bahro
Years ago, in a provincial town in eastern Germany, there lived a man whose only remarkable or distinguishing feature seemed to be his enduring loyalty and devotion to the state, proved by years of unstinting and reliable service. So regular in fact were his habits, so perfectly did he seem to mesh with the machinery of daily life, that the local townspeople set their clocks according to his comings and goings. Yet, one day, quite late in life, a…
