The Association Between Shift Work, Sleep Quality, and Health-Related Quality of Life Among Workers in the Logistics Industry
Regional concentrations of heavy metals in surface soils and risk of body pain in elderly residential population
Our results indicate that higher soil arsenic exposure is associated with an increased risk of pain in specific body regions. This study is the first examining the associations between multiple heavy metals in surface soil and the risks of pain in different body sites. Our findings provide new insights into the health risks of soil heavy metal exposure
Older People's Perceptions of Remaining Physically Active and Living With Chronic Pain
Active aging, using the conventional sense of activity, might be difficult to achieve for people with chronic musculoskeletal pain (CMP). Given that a large number of older people will develop CMP, it is important to consider a broader conceptualization of activity and how this might fit into discourses of aging. We report findings from a study of the experiences of chronic pain in the daily life of 60 older people. In this article we focus on th…
Influence of chronic diseases on long-term change in physical health
Disabling knee pain – another consequence of obesity
Obesity accounts for a substantial proportion of severe disabling knee pain. As knee pain is a common disabling condition in older adults living in the community, effective public health interventions about avoidance of excess weight could have a major impact on future lower limb disability in older adults
Previous consultation and self reported health status as predictors of future demand for primary care
Study objective: There has been little prospective investigation of what predicts general practice consultation. The objective of this study was to investigate the extent to which previous primary care consultation and self reported health status are predictors of future primary care consultation. Design: Population based cohort study in two phases. Firstly, a baseline survey (1995/96) to identify the cohort and to obtain self reported health sta…

Health Experiences of Elderly People in an Outer London Area
This paper addresses the use of a combined quantitative and qualitative methodology to assess the needs of elderly people within an outer London area. The study was in two stages; firstly, a postal survey of people aged 65 and over using the health profile tool, the Short Form-36 (SF-36), alongside a demographic questionnaire. This was followed by a small number of qualitative interviews on a subset of people who scored at the worst end of the SF…
