  • In memory of our mentor

Open Access•Sarah F Brosnan, Filippo Aureli et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Primatology•2024

The world lost a towering figure when primatologist Frans de Waal passed away on March 14, 2024. Many are aware of his multitude of contributions to the field. His ability to see what animals were actually doing changed how we viewed first primates, then other species. He shared these insights through both traditional scientific outputs, such as journal articles and scientific presentations, and less common outputs, such as 15 books and two TED t…

  • Owner-Reported Attachment and Behavior Characteristics of New Guinea Singing Dogs Living as Companion Animals

Molly H Sumridge, Malini Suchak et al.•ARTICLE•Anthrozoös•2021•Referencias: 35

The majority of NGSDs in the United States and Canada live as companion animals, yet observational studies of NGSDs have been limited to those living in zoos and in the wild. To learn more …

  • Chimpanzees ( Pan troglodytes ) tolerate some degree of inequity while cooperating but refuse to donate effort for nothing

Open Access•Matthew W Campbell, Julia Watzek et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Primatology•2020

In cooperative hunting, a carcass cannot be divided equally, and hunts may be unsuccessful. We studied how chimpanzees respond to these two variables, working for unequal rewards and no rewards, which have been rarely included in experimental cooperative tasks. We presented chimpanzees with a task requiring three chimpanzees to work together and varied the reward structure in two separate experiments. In Experiment 1, two individuals received mor…
