  • Is air pollution increasing in poorer localities of Mexico? Evidence from PM 2.5 satellite data

    Open Access•Lopamudra Chakraborti, John Voorheis•ARTICLE•Environment and Development…•2025

This paper analyzes inequities in the distribution of air pollution in Mexico at the detailed scale of localities. We find that air pollution increases in areas that experience a decline in socioeconomic status. We utilize 15 years of remote sensing data on fine particulate matter (smaller than 2.5 microns) for more than 116,500 localities across Mexico. Our panel data models show that localities that face a decline in socioeconomic status experi…

  • The Impact of Manufacturing Credentials on Earnings and the Probability of Employment

Open Access•Vanessa Brown, Gardner Carrick et al.•ARTICLE•Industrial and Labor Relations…•2024•Referencias: 27

This article examines the labor market returns to earning industry-certified credentials in the manufacturing sector. Specifically, the authors are interested in estimating the impact of a manufacturing credential on earnings and probability of employment, both overall and within the pre- and post-credential industry of employment. They link students who earned manufacturing credentials to their educational enrollment and completion records, and …

  • Disparities in PM 2.5 air pollution in the United States

Open Access•Jonathan Colmer, Ian Hardman et al.•ARTICLE•Science•2020

Cleaner skies Particulate air pollution in the contiguous United States has decreased considerably over recent decades, but where exactly has that progress been made? Colmer et al. analyzed 36 years of data and found that the spatial distribution of fine particulate matter concentrations has remained largely unchanged over that interval (see the Perspective by Ma). Although, fine particulate pollution levels have dropped overall, those areas that…
