This study examines how women non-sports fans in a peripheral city perceive and interpret their local football team’s promotion to the Premier League. David M Dush, Michael Hirt et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Bulletin•1989

Reviews 48 outcome studies that applied self-statement modification (SSM) to childhood behavior disorders. Selection criteria restricted the review to controlled experimental studies and to children with disorders of clinically relevant severity. Relationships were explored among self-predictions of assertive behavior in specific situations, actual behavior in identical situations, and role-playing tests in similar situations for two negative assertiveness response classes. Consistent with earlier research, role-playing assessments were minimally predictive of in vivo assertiveness. This minimal relationship was generally consistent for both males and females at high, medium, and low leve…

A more or less exhaustive set of reasons for participating in religious activities was identified by respondents from a wide variety of religious denominations. These reasons were cast into a standard form and presented as a Q-sort to 100 undergraduates who rated each reason's importance to me. A principal components inverse factor analysis yielded seven interpretable clusters of people (types): the humble servants of God; the self-improvers; the…
