Applying the Social Identity Approach to Leadership to Online Support Groups for Long Covid
Previous research has shown that online support groups for Long Covid may improve group members' wellbeing, but there is limited evidence on the role of group moderators in influencing such outcomes. Applying the social identity approach to leadership, this study sought to understand the extent to which group moderators display identity leadership and their role in influencing group members' health and wellbeing. Interviews were conducted with 10…
Understanding the “new” disruptive behavior at live music events
Recent years have seen increased reports of disruptive behavior at live music events, leading many to question the capacity of audiences to regulate their behavior. This matters both for positive audience experience and for crowd safety. Whilst some previous studies have examined violence in music audiences, there is almost no research looking at the current phenomenon of varied forms of disruption, the psychological antecedents of disruptive beh…
Identifying and overcoming barriers and facilitators to blood donation in young adults using the theoretical domains frameworks
This study applied the Theoretical Domains Framework (TDF) to identify barriers and facilitators to blood donation among young adults in the UK. A total of 195 individuals (aged 18-29) completed an online survey covering 14 TDF domains, with non-donors offered the chance to register as donors. Binary logistic regression analysis revealed that Knowledge, Beliefs about capabilities and Emotion were the most significant predictors of current donatio…
Online support groups, social identity, and the health and wellbeing of adults with Long Covid
As many individuals with Long Covid are left without formal support, they have turned to online support groups for help. In a pre‐registered study, interviews were carried out with 21 adults with Long Covid to explore experiences of using online support groups, to understand whether participants felt these experiences influenced their health and wellbeing, and to identify whether group members developed a shared social identity. The reported bene…
Co-developing evidence-informed adaptation actions for resilient citywide sanitation
Already climate-related hazards are impacting sanitation systems in Indonesia and elsewhere, and climate models indicate these hazards are likely to increase in frequency and intensity. Without due attention, to maintain existing progress on Sustainable Development Goal 6’s target 6.2 and to increase it to meet ambitions for 2030 will be difficult. City governments need new forms of evidence to respond, as well as approaches to enable them to con…
Safely Managed On-Site Sanitation
Sustainable Development Goal target 6.2 calls for universal access to adequate and equitable sanitation, setting a more ambitious standard for 'safely managed sanitation services'. On-site sanitation systems (e.g., septic tanks) are widely used in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). However, the lack of indicators for assessing fecal exposure risks presents a barrier to monitoring safely managed services. Furthermore, geographic diversity a…
Faecal Pathogen Flows and Their Public Health Risks in Urban Environments
Public health benefits are often a key political driver of urban sanitation investment in developing countries, however, pathogen flows are rarely taken systematically into account in sanitation investment choices. While several tools and approaches on sanitation and health risks have recently been developed, this research identified gaps in their ability to predict faecal pathogen flows, to relate exposure risks to the existing sanitation servic…
