  • Doctoral Students’ Life Satisfaction Throughout the Covid-19 Pandemic

Open Access•Mareike Rußmann, Nicolai Netz et al.•ARTICLE•Social Indicators Research•2025•Referencias: 6

While large and highly societally relevant, the group of doctoral students still plays a subordinate role in the well-being literature. To narrow this research gap, we investigate how their life satisfaction (LS) trajectories developed throughout the Covid-19 pandemic in Germany. We draw on set-point, adaptation, family, and gender theories to examine doctoral students’ LS trajectories before, at the onset of, during, and after the pandemic. Ther…

  • The role of performance skills in German teacher education

Open Access•Kristina Walz, Ulrike Schwabe et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Education•2024

This contribution explores empirical associations between general pedagogical knowledge (GPK), communication skills, and grades in initial teacher education. We assessed the GPK and communication skills of 105 student teachers in Germany, using a knowledge test and a performance-based assessment. Empirical results show a significant correlation between GPK and grades but not between communication skills and grades. GPK is associated with the numb…

  • Stability or change? Social inequality at the transition from bachelor’s to master’s degree programmes in Germany. Empirical evidence from four graduate cohorts

Open Access•David Reimer, Ulrike Schwabe•ARTICLE•European Journal of Educational…•2023

For German higher education, the introduction of a two-cycle study structure resulted in a new transition stage after the completion of the bachelor’s degree. In contrast to some other countries, this structural change was stretched over a relatively long period. At the same time, the number of students enrolled in higher education has increased substantially. Existing empirical evidence indicates that starting a master’s degree programme is soci…

  • The German National Academics Panel Study (Nacaps). A New Longitudinal Survey on Early Researchers’ Careers and Life Courses

Kolja Briedis, Ute Hoffstätter et al.•ARTICLE•Soziale Welt•2022

Against the backdrop of educational expansion and knowledge economies, doctorate holders are seen as a core potential for economic growth and innovation in general. However, there is a considerable need for adequate data to gain empirical knowledge on the individual and structural determinants as well as the (long-term) career effects of obtaining a doctoral degree. Therefore, the German Centre for Higher Education Research and Science Studies (D…
