  • Conceptualizing self-reported adverse childhood experiences

    Open Access•Marianna D Lanoue, Rafael Ha et al.•ARTICLE•Social Science & Medicine•2025

In this paper, we apply a measurement science perspective to explore both the epidemiologic and psychometric frameworks for the conceptualization, operationalization and assessment of self-reported adverse childhood experiences (srACEs). The epidemiologic paradigm suggests that srACEs are ‘exposures’, while the psychometric paradigm views responses on srACEs instrumentation as ‘indicators’. It is the central premise of this paper that srACEs cann…

  • Development and preliminary validation of a scale to measure patient uncertainty

    Open Access•Marianna D Lanoue, Angela M Gerolamo et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Health Psychology•2020•Referencias: 39

Research suggests that patient uncertainty related to experiencing symptoms may drive decisions to seek care. The only validated measure of patient uncertainty assesses uncertainty related to defined illness. In prior work, we engaged patients to describe uncertainty related to symptoms and used findings to develop the 'U-Scale' scale. In this work, we present results from preliminary scale reliability and validity testing. Psychometric testing d…

Overall, 863 patients in an urban emergency department completed the Multidimensional Health Locus of Control instrument, and self-reported emergency department use and hospital adm…

American Indian parents may also be affected by intergenerational transmission of trauma and loss of traditional parenting practices, as a result of forced boarding school and/or …
