The association between mood and plasma testosterone was investigated. Every second day for 2 months, a Multiple Affect Adjective Checklist was filled out by 20 young men. Blood samples taken at the same time were analyzed for testosterone concentration. Corticosteroid Excretion in Normal Young Adults Living Under “Basal” Conditions
Under basal conditions in a hospital setting, mean 17-OHCS excretion for normal 18- to 25-year-old males and females was 8.5 (13.3–5.5) and 5.1 mg./day (8.6–3.0), respectively. Weight “correction” did not abolish this significant sex difference; it did alter somewhat the rank-order of “high” to “low” 17-OHCS excretors. Values for males were about 50% higher than those reported in outpatient studies. Subjects tended to be relatively consistent in …
Correlations Between Behavioral Variables and Urinary 17-Hydroxycorticosteroids in Depressed Patients
This paper presents a study of the relationship of urinary 17-hydroxycorticosteroids (17-OHCS) to behavioral variables in depressed patients. Longitudinal behavioral ratings of depression and anxiety showed high positive correlations with 17-OHCS levels when analyzed over time for a given patient. However, if mean depression ratings and mean 17-OHCS levels were taken for each of the 17 patients studied, a significant positive correlation was not …
Urinary 17-Hydroxycorticosteroid Levels in Parents of Children with Neoplastic Disease
Urinary 17-hydroxycorticosteroid (17-OHCS) excretion rates were determined in 43 subjects, representing one or both parents of 26 children with neoplastic disease. Twentynine of the parents were admitted for study to a National Institute of Mental Health ward while their children were hospitalized; 14 parents lived at home and were studied on an “outpatient” basis.
