    Open Access•Muriel Ramírez-Santana, Juan Correa-Parra et al.•ARTICLE•PLOS Global Public Health•2026

While Chile achieved one of the world’s highest and most equitable SARS-CoV-2 vaccination coverages during the pandemic, less is known about the post-pandemic stage. This study examines within-country geospatial disparities in COVID-19 vaccination uptake and their socio-demographic determinants in two urban areas of Chile. • Segregated peripheries of Gran Valparaíso, Chile

    Open Access•César Cáceres, César Cáceres-Seguel et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Sociology•2026

The Latin American city is structured by structural social inequality, expressed in an inequitable distribution of people and urban goods across the city. Therefore, analyzing the degree of residential segregation associated with the expansion of these cities is fundamental for urban policy design. Using spatial statistical techniques, we analyze the level of residential segregation existing in the urban expansion areas between 1992 and 2017 in t…

  • The 15-minute city and real estate capital

    Juan Correa-Parra, Francisco Vergara-Perucich et al.•ARTICLE•Town Planning Review•2025

The COVID-19 pandemic has spurred discussions on reimagining cities based on principles of public health and reducing spatially expressed inequalities. In this context, the concept of the 15-minute city has emerged as a priority for municipal authorities in the case of Chile. However, the implementation of this model faces challenges, including the dominant presence of the market in the production and capitalisation of urban life in Chilean citie…

  • Overcoming Health Inequities

    Open Access•Muriel Ramírez-Santana, Juan Correa-Parra et al.•ARTICLE•Health Equity•2024

Background: In unequal economies, the spread of the first waves of the COVID-19 was usually associated with low socioeconomic status of individuals and their families. Chile exemplified this. By mid-2020, Chile had one of the highest SARS-CoV-2 infection rates in the world predominantly in poorer areas. A year later, the country launched a universal vaccination campaign based on the national strategy of immunization established in 1975. By 2022, …
