Syndromic and biological screening for sexually transmitted infections in female sex workers in Côte d’Ivoire
Background Female sex workers (FSWs) are at high risk of contracting STIs, in particular in Sub-Saharan Africa. The implementation of oral HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis provided an opportunity to draw attention to the sexual health needs of FSWs. Innovative strategies to screen for and reduce the burden of STIs is thus a priority. This study describes STI screening among FSWs enrolled in the PRINCESSE project in Côte d’Ivoire. Methods The PRINCESS…

Community Health Workers. Reinforcement of an Outreach Strategy in Rural Areas Aimed at Improving the Integration of HIV, Tuberculosis and Malaria Prevention, Screening and Care Into the Health System…
Background: In Côte d'Ivoire, the health system remains poorly accessible and inefficient, particularly in rural areas. Malaria, tuberculosis and HIV remain a major concern. Tasks shifting to Community Health Workers (CHWs) in rural areas has been proposed in terms of responses and has shown encouraging results with some limitations. Objective is therefore to develop and implement, in a health district, at the level of a neighborhood, a sub-prefe…
High burden of self-reported sexually transmitted infections among female sex workers in Togo in 2021
Background Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI) remain a public health challenge, especially for Female Sex Workers (FSW) who are particularly vulnerable. In sub-Saharan Africa where the overlapping epidemics of STI and HIV are concentrated among key populations, epidemiological data are needed in order to better understand STI trends in this population. The aim of this study was to assess the prevalence of self-reported STI symptoms and their r…
A community-based healthcare package combining testing and prevention tools, including pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), immediate HIV treatment, management of hepatitis B virus, and sexual and reprodu…

Pregnancy incidence and associated factors among HIV-infected female adolescents in HIV care in urban Côte d'Ivoire, 2009–2013
OBJECTIVE: Adolescents living with HIV are sexually active and engaged in risky sexual behaviors. Knowledge on how and to what extent adolescents in HIV care are affected by pregnancy is needed so as to adopt better preventive services. We estimated 4-year pregnancy incidence and correlates among HIV-infected female adolescents in HIV care in urban Côte d'Ivoire. DESIGN: We conducted retrospective analysis of a pediatric prospective cohort of the…
Acceptabilité du test VIH proposé aux nourrissons dans les services pédiatriques, en Côte d'Ivoire,Significations pour la couverture du diagnostic pédiatrique
PROBLEM: HIV testing in children had rarely been a central concern for researchers. When pediatric tracking retained the attention, it was more to inform on the diagnosis tools' performances rather than the fact the pediatric test can be accepted or refused. This article highlights the parents' reasons which explain why pediatric HIV test is accepted or refused. OBJECTIVE: To study among parents, the explanatory factors of the acceptability of pe…
Cervical cancer screening by visual inspection in Côte d'Ivoire, operational and clinical aspects according to HIV status
The higher frequency of positive visual inspection among HIV-positive women supports the need to extend cervical cancer screening program to all HIV clinics in West Africa. Women loss to follow-up after being positively screened is a major concern in cervical screening programs but yet, partly amenable to a phone tracking procedure
