Petrography and Provenance Interpretation of the Stone Moulds for Bronze Daggers From the Galdong Prehistoric Site, Republic of Korea
This paper presents material characteristics and raw material provenance of the stone moulds for bronze slender daggers from Galdong. This type of bronze dagger is uniquely distributed in the Korean Peninsula and these stone moulds were the first to be found by excavation. The stone moulds were made of igneous hornblendite with course‐grained holocrystalline textures. Based on petrological, mineralogical and geochemical characteristics, the origi…

Regional Inequalities in Infant Mortality in Britain, 1861-1971
In this paper long-run changes in infant mortality for 55 regions of Great Britain are examined. A diverse pattern of change, substantially different from the familiar aggregate trend of stability before 1900, followed by general decline, was revealed. In some regions, those with the lowest infant mortality rates, there was improvement from the 1860s, while elsewhere rates increased. Hence several measures of inequality indicated divergence betwe…

Modern Economic Growth and Structural Change in Scotland the Service Sector Reconsidered
Despite a profusion of texts on the development of the Scottish economy over the past two hundred years which have been published in recent years, together with Campbell's recent stimulating book-length interpretative essay on the subject, the problem of economic structural composition and structural change has been given only cursory treatment.' This is as surprising as it is unfortunate, because the nature and implications of structural change …

Regional Growth and Structural Change in Victorian Britain
Does this mean that the patterns of economic development, diverse at national level, are vastly greater at regional level, and that disaggregation simply adds confusion to the attempt to explain growth? Recent work suggests that economic development, at national level, does not produce the infinity of patterns which historians have sometimes suggested, but that there are a small number of basic types of development. The investigations of Chenery …

The effects of the depression on primary producing countries
A Study in Redistribution and Consumption
AT least since Mandeville's Fable of the Bees (I728), there have been underconsumptionists who have ascribed trade depressions to deficiency in consumption expenditures.' Underconsumptionist thought may further be subdivided into two schools. Monetary underconsumptionism, which does not concern us here, blames underconsumption upon flaws in the processes of creation and circulation of money and credit. Social Credit movement in Great Britain and …

Marketing Organisation and Policy in the Cotton Trade
Business correspondence is one of the few historical sources to provide an explicit statement of commercial policy, and an analysis of the grounds upon which such policies were formulated. All too often policies of firms or industries have to be deduced from sources which have only an indirect connection or oblique reference to the problem of policy, and factual gaps are bridged by the assumption that policies are formulated rationally and in acc…
