    Open Access•Rachel Flynn, Kara Schick-Makaroff et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2020•Citada por: 2•Referencias: 41

A central aspect of any theory-driven realist investigation (synthesis or evaluation) is to develop an initial program theory (IPT). An IPT can be used to frame and understand how, for whom, why, and under what contexts complex interventions work or not. Despite well-established evidence that IPTs are a central aspect to any realist investigation, there is wide variation and a lack of methodological discussion on how to develop an IPT. In this ar…

Complex sociocultural values influence from whom a recipient can receive blood. This focused ethnography aimed to investigate if, in this patriarchal society, the gender of the recipient influences who will donate blood. Data were collected from the district of R…

    Open Access•Zubia Mumtaz, Adrienne Levay et al.•ARTICLE•Social Science & Medicine•2013•Citada por: 3•Referencias: 23

Despite rising uptake of maternal healthcare in Pakistan, inequities persist. To-date, attempts to explain and address these differentials have focused predominantly on increasing awareness, geographic and financial accessibility. However, in a context where 70% of healthcare is private sector provided, it becomes pertinent to consider the value associated with this good. This study examined patterns of maternal healthcare use across socioeconomi…

  • Long-term gendered consequences of permanent disabilities caused by the 2005 Pakistan earthquake

Open Access•Humaira Irshad, Zubia Mumtaz et al.•ARTICLE•Disasters•2012•Citada por: 8•Referencias: 14

This study documents the long-term gendered impact of the 2005 Pakistan earthquake on women and men who were rendered paraplegic as a result of spinal cord injuries sustained during the disaster. Coping mechanisms are also mapped. The findings show that three years after the disaster, paraplegic women are socially, emotionally, and financially isolated. The small stipend they receive is a significant source of income, but it has also led to marit…
