Open Access•Sarojini Ramgoon, Ndileka Qaqamba Dalasile et al.•ARTICLE•South African Journal of Psychology•2011•Citada por: 1•Referencias: 12

The health care system in South Africa is primarily located within the hegemonic biomedical model. The passing of the Traditional Health Practitioners Act No. 22 of 2007 paved the way for approximately 200,000 traditional healers to be formally recognized and integrated into the health care system, thus challenging the status quo. This exploratory study seeks to explore trainee and registered psychologists' perceptions about indigenous healing an…

Semi-structured interviews with nine women who had participated in the pilot intervention were used to understand pa…

A convenience sample of 235 students participated in the study. The females ( n = 188) reported significantly higher levels of religiosi…

Open Access•Zubeda Paruk, Sitti Djamela Mohamed et al.•ARTICLE•SAHARA-J Journal of Social…•2006•Citada por: 1•Referencias: 18

Given the dearth of literature on the influence of religiosity on attitudes toward people with HIV/AIDS, the present study surveyed these variables in a sample of South African Muslim university students using the Religious Orientation Scale (ROS) and an attitude to people with HIV scale. Gender differences in attitudes towards people with HIV were also examined. The sample comprised 90 male and female undergraduate and postgraduate Muslim studen…

  • Containment and contagion

Zubeda Paruk, Inge Petersen et al.•ARTICLE•African Journal of AIDS Research•2005

There has been little research done in South Africa that investigates how families nested within communities can be strengthened to support the prevention of HIV infection in youth. A focused ethnographic case-study approach was employed to better understand how families in a semi-rural area outside Durban, South Africa, could support youth to make healthy life choices, particularly with respect to HIV risk behaviour. This involved a volunteer co…
