  • Petrochemistry of Sediment and Organic Materials Sampled from Ossuaries and Two Nails from the Tomb of the Family of the High Priest Caiaphas, Jerusalem

    Open Access•Aryeh E Shimron, Yoetz Deutsch et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeological Discovery•2020

We have studied the petrochemistry of degraded bones and sediment from the interior of four ossuaries (burial boxes) discovered in what is (arguably) believed to be the 1st century CE family tomb of the high priest Caiaphas (herewith Cft) in Jerusalem. During the course of the 1990 excavation, among other artifacts (e.g., a coin found in a skull) two iron nails were discovered. One of the nails was inside an ossuary, the other on the floor of one…

Emilian Teleaga, Adrian Bălășescu et al.•ARTICLE•Praehistorische Zeitschrift•2014

  • The olive-branch dating of the Santorini eruption

Open Access•Paolo Cherubini, Turi Humbel et al.•ARTICLE•Antiquity•2014•Citada por: 4•Referencias: 17

The date of the volcanic eruption of Santorini that caused extensive damage toMinoan Crete has been controversial since the 1980s. Some have placed the event in the late seventeenth century BC. Others have made the case for a younger date of around 1500 BC. A recent contribution to that controversy has been the dating of an olive tree branch preserved within the volcanic ash fall on Santorini. In this debate feature Paolo Cherubini and colleagues…

  • Charcoal fragments of Alpine soils as an indicator of landscape evolution during the Holocene in Val di Sole (Trentino, Italy)

    Open Access•Filippo Favilli, Paolo Cherubini et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2009•Citada por: 7•Referencias: 13

Subalpine and Alpine soils in Val di Sole (Trentino, Italy) have been investigated in order to reconstruct vegetation changes and human impact during the Holocene period. Archaeological findings have demonstrated that Alpine sites have been populated since pre-historical times. Humans have had a great impact on the natural landscape evolution. One of the most-used tools has been fire. The use of fire has enabled the landscape to be cleared to pro…

  • Late Pleistocene and Early Holocene finds from Öküzini
