Understanding the end of the Holocene
This is a statistical analysis of several time series to find the best evidence to determine when the Holocene ended. We utilize nonparametric statistical methods (which are model free) to determine structural breaks on whether the cumulative human impacts on land, air and oceans are indicative of the end of the Holocene Epoch. A New Approach to Forecasting the Probability of Recessions after the Covid‐19 Pandemic
Standard recession forecasting based on economic indicators has become unsettled due to COVID‐19 pandemic's limited but influential data. This paper proposes a new non‐parametric approach to computing predictive probabilities of future recessions that is robust to influential observations and other data irregularities. The gender pay gap in UK universities 2004/5 to 2019/20
Using UK data supplied by universities, this paper confirms that women academics earn less than men, even after controlling for a range of covariates. Despite narrowing after 2004/05, the observed (unconditional) pay gap was still −0.089 in 2019/20, while the conditional pay gap was relatively unchanged remaining at around −0.050 in 2019/20. The results are consistent with the literature on why pay gaps might occur, with the key disparity occurri…

Inference on Filtered and Smoothed Probabilities in Markov-Switching Autoregressive Models
We derive a statistical theory that provides useful asymptotic approximations to the distributions of the single inferences of filtered and smoothed probabilities, derived from time series characterized by Markov-switching dynamics. We show that the uncertainty in these probabilities diminishes when the states are separated, the variance of the shocks is low, and the time series or the regimes are persistent.
