  • Further evidence supporting the validity of both a multidimensional profile and an overall evaluation of teaching effectiveness

Charles A Burdsal, Paul Harrison et al.•ARTICLE•Assessment & Evaluation in Higher…•2008

The purpose of this research is to provide additional empirical evidence supporting the use of both a multidimensional profile and an overall evaluation of teaching effectiveness as valid indicators of student perceptions of effective classroom instruction. A factor analytic teaching evaluation instrument was used that also included open‐ended comments on four questions. Numerical scores from 208 classes were matched with the average valence of t…

  • Further development of an Australian-based measure of social capital in a US sample

  • The Dimensions of Students’ Perceptions of Teaching Effectiveness

    Open Access•Dennis L Jackson, Cayla R Teal et al.•ARTICLE•Educational and Psychological…•1999

The use of student ratings of instructional quality is enhanced by an understanding of the nature of the underlying dimensions. In the current investigation, confirmatory factor analysis procedures were used to assess the fit of the original solution for the Student’s Perceptions of Teaching Effectiveness questionnaire to a more recent sample of more than 7,000 university classes. Furthermore, a new exploratory factor analysis was used to examine…

  • A Structural Model of Appropriate Adult Functioning for Boys with Disruptive Behavior Disorders

    Open Access•Ronald C Force, M James Klingsporn et al.•ARTICLE•Youth & Society•1996•Referencias: 16

Saint Francis Academy is a residential treatment center for boys with disruptive behavior disorders. Previously collected posttreatment data was factor analyzed yielding nine factors, six of which contributed to a second-order factor called Appropriate Adult Functioning. A structural model using these six factors produced from data collected from ex-residents at 2 years postrelease was analyzed using EQS (a structural modeling program). The model…

  • Measuring Student's Perceptions of Teaching

    Open Access•Charles A Burdsal, John W Bardo•ARTICLE•Educational and Psychological…•1986

Results from application of the SPTE Questionnaire from 2,115 classes were factor analyzed to oblique simple structure. A first-order solution with six factors resulted: 1) Attitude Toward Students, (2) Work Load, (3) Course Value to Students, (4) Course Organization/Structure, (5) Grading Quality, and (6) Level of Material. Two second-order factors were also found. At the second-order, results showed that course difficulty was uncorrelated with …

  • PF-E Structure using Radial Parcels Versus Items

Joseph Hughey, Charles A Burdsal et al.•ARTICLE•The Journal of General Psychology•1982•Referencias: 1

The Sixteen Personality Factor Questionnaire (16PF) was factored with the use of groups of items called radial parcels and was subsequently compared with an item factoring of the same data. This was done in order to verify the 16PF (Form E) primary factors and to investigate the use of radial parcels in that process. Ss were 449 physically or mentally handicapped men and women who were part of a rehabilitation counseling process. Results indicate…

  • An Item Factoring of 16PF-E

Charles A Burdsal, Charles Burdsal et al.•ARTICLE•The Journal of General Psychology•1979•Citada por: 1•Referencias: 1

An item factoring of 16PF-E was conducted for the purpose of assessing the replicability of Cattell's normal personality sphere. The Ss utilized were 449 rehabilitation clients, 55% male. The mean age was 31 years. A secondary objective was to compare seven rotational strategies, including a procrustean-graphical procedure. The results of the factor analysis, using the graphical rotation to simple structure, provided strong support for Cattell's …

  • Factor Analytic Examination of Role Attitudes of Married Women

    Open Access•P M Cohen, Charles A Burdsal•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1978

A questionnaire dealing with the attitudes married women have regarding their sex-related roles was administered to 139 married women in the Wichita, Kansas area. 16 factors underlying the attitudes married women held regarding female roles were uncovered: marital satisfaction, sex-role frustration, traditional values, value about motherhood, feelings about men, age, breaking the stereotype, membership in the feminist movement, opinion of men, re…

  • The Radial Parcel Double Factoring Design

Raymond B Cattell, Charles A Burdsal et al.•ARTICLE•Multivariate Behavioral Research•1975

It is shown that the controversy over the item-vs-parcel factoring as commonly understood admits of solution and reconciliation by the new method of radical parcelling. Items have the defect of instability and blurred hyperplanes. Parcels as commonly used also have defects. Radial parcelling, avoiding the subjectivity and uneven sized in ordinary packaging, is shown theoretically to yield the same common factor space and better simple structure. …
