  • Climate and human exploitation have regulated Atlantic salmon populations in the River Spey, Scotland, over the last 2000 years

    Open Access•David Sear, Peter G Langdon et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2022•Referencias: 1

Historical salmon catch records suggest that climatic variability, and more recently human exploitation, control patterns of abundance in Atlantic salmon populations. We present the first long-term (2000-year) reconstruction of Atlantic Salmon population variations based on a Marine Derived Nutrient (MDN) lake sediment record. Our record is constructed from nitrogen isotopes (δ 15 N) measured from a lake sediment core, which we compare with an es…

  • Religion, Families, and Health

Duane F Alwin, John Bartkowski et al.•BOOK•Religion, Families, and Health•2020

Religion is a major social institution in the United States. While the scientific community has experienced a resurgence in the idea that there are important linkages between religion and family life and religion and health outcomes, this area of study is still in its early stages of development, scattered across multiple disciplines, and of uneven quality. To date, no book has featured both reviews of the literature and new empirical findings th…

This paper examines religious group differences in key demographic indicators of socioeconomic status and family structure using the 2000 Mexican Census. The changing patterns of religious affiliation in Mexico signal incre…

    T B Heaton, Tim Heaton et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Comparative Family…•1999•Citada por: 1

Using data from the 1990 Demographic and Health Survey at Nigeria, this study examines ethnic differences in demographic characteristics of the family. Age differences are used to assess interethnic differences in the rate of change. Age patterns suggest fundamental change including delayed marriage, lower rates of polygamy, shorter delays in the interval between birth and the resumption of sexual intercourse, growing acceptability of contracepti…

  • Residential preferences, community satisfaction, and the intention to move

    Open Access•T B Heaton, Tim Heaton et al.•ARTICLE•Demography•1979•Citada por: 16•Referencias: 11

This paper explores the role of size of place residential preference in the evolution of the intention to move out of the present community using data from the March 1974 NORC Amalgam Survey. People who prefer to live in a community having different size or location characteristics than their present residence are five times more likely to intend to move than those who have attained their preferred type of residence. Within these two groups, howe…
