  • Elvino Whetten Pueblo and Its Relationship to Terraces and Nearby Small Structures, Chihuahua, Mexico

    Ralph A Luebben, Jonathan G Andelson et al.•ARTICLE•KIVA•1986•Citada por: 6•Referencias: 4

Since the late nineteenth century, archaeologists have been aware of extensive terracing in the Sierra Madre Occidental of northern Sonora and Chihuahua, Mexico; yet correlations between the hydraulic systems and associated cultural manifestations in the highlands have not been established. Excavation of the Elvino Whetten Pueblo and several small outbuildings, as well as examination of the adjacent terrace system, attempted, first, to resolve th…

  • Two Pueblo III Kiva Complexes Associated with Subterranean Rooms, Southwestern Colorado

    Ralph A Luebben•ARTICLE•KIVA•1982•Citada por: 1•Referencias: 3

At the Ismay and Watson sites, situated near Yucca House National Monument, Pueblo III kivas were linked to subterranean rooms by underground passages. These passages were entered via openings in kiva floors, passed beneath the lower walls, formed a reverse S-curve, gained elevation, and continued as almost straight horizontal lines to the doorways of nearly featureless underground rooms. Prior to the destruction of both kivas, passages had been …

    Ralph A Luebben•ARTICLE•KIVA•1964•Citada por: 1

Since World War II, lead-zinc mines at “Carbonate City,” Colorado, have presented an excellent opportunity for steady off-reservation employment. Navaho Indians residing off the reservation sometimes break laws and come into contact with the “white man's” law enforcement agencies and concomitant legal system. Six hypotheses were tested, and three were verified: 1. A higher percentage of Navahos will be arrested for various offenses than Anglos.2.…

    Ralph A Luebben•ARTICLE•KIVA•1964

Three hypotheses concerning the socio-cultural inter-relationships of Anglos and Navahos residing in “Carbonate City?” Colorado are tested using ethnographic data. It is concluded that Navahos experience discrimination, are a target of prejudice, and have become another American minority aggregate

  • An Unusual Pueblo III Ruin, Mesa Verde, Colorado

    Open Access•Ralph A Luebben, Laurence Herold et al.•ARTICLE•American Antiquity•1960•Citada por: 1

Site 52, a possible platform mound, is unusually situated near the bottom of a draw rather than along the ridge of Chapin Mesa. Complete excavation of the small surface structure yielded two distinct levels of construction and several architectural phenomena which previously had not been reported from San Juan Anasazi sites. A rectangle of multiple-coursed masonry was built on a sloped, irregular ground surface. An interior crosswall with a floor…
