Trauma‐Informed Approaches to Violence Reduction
Trauma and adverse childhood experiences are a public health issue and risk factor for future violence and criminality. This has motivated stakeholders to consider approaches which tackle the root causes of violent crime. This paper explores post-treatment experiences of women who have had radiotherapy for gynaecological cancer. Drawing on data from a project which explored post-treatment wellbeing, conceptual metaphors of ghosts/haunting are used to engage with enduring legacies of cancer and 'neglected matters' in post-treatment trajectories. The ambivalence of radiotherapy
Within the biomedical paradigm, treatment effects are typically split into primary and secondary effects with temporality playing a key role in this separation. Yet, this kind of ordering of effects with some effects understood as happening on the 'side', secondary and temporary, does not fit with how they are experienced by many patients who undergo treatment for cancer. School holidays can be stressful periods for children from low-income families. Poor provision of appropriate childcare, limited access to enrichment activities, and food insecurity mean that children's health and well-being can suffer and their learning stagnate or decline. Archaeological excavations at Castle Sween, Knapdale, Argyll & Bute, 1989-90
Excavations have thrown light on the history and use of the castle from its construction, c. 1200, to the present day. A forge and kilns are evidence of industrial activity prior to 1650. Evidence for ranges of buildings within the courtyard amplifies previous descriptions of the castle.
