  • The economic impacts of flood-driven transportation delays

Open Access•Xinmeng Shan, Qian Yao et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Transport Geography•2025•Referencias: 2

  • Challenges in the attribution of river flood events

    Open Access•Paolo Scussolini, Linh N Luu et al.•ARTICLE•Wiley Interdisciplinary Reviews…•2023•Referencias: 4

Advances in the field of extreme event attribution allow to estimate how anthropogenic global warming affects the odds of individual climate disasters, such as river floods. Extreme event attribution typically uses precipitation as proxy for flooding. However, hydrological processes and antecedent conditions make the relation between precipitation and floods highly nonlinear. In addition, hydrology acknowledges that changes in floods can be stron…

  • Hard or soft flood adaptation? Advantages of a hybrid strategy for Shanghai

    Open Access•Shiqiang Du, Paolo Scussolini et al.•ARTICLE•Global Environmental Change•2020•Citada por: 7•Referencias: 1

Flood risk is expected to increase in coastal cities, particularly in Asian megacities such as Shanghai. This paper presents an integrated modeling framework to simulate changes in the flood risk in Shanghai and provide a cost-benefit analysis of multiple adaptation strategies used to reduce risk. The results show that the potential flood risk will increase dramatically as a result of sea level rise, land subsidence, and socioeconomic development…

  • Science for Loss and Damage. Findings and Propositions

Open Access•Reinhard Mechler, Elisa Calliari et al.•CHAPTER•Loss and Damage from Climate Change•2019

The debate on “Loss and Damage” (L&D) has gained traction over the last few years. Supported by growing scientific evidence of anthropogenic climate change amplifying frequency, intensity and duration of climate-related hazards as well as observed increases in climate-related impacts and risks in many regions, the “Warsaw International Mechanism for Loss and Damage” was established in 2013 and further supported through the Paris Agreement in 2015…

  • Rapid Population Growth in Chinese Floodplains from 1990 to 2015

Open Access•Yongqiang Fang, Shiqiang Du et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2018

Although China suffers from frequent and disastrous floods, the spatiotemporal pattern of its population living in the floodplain (PopF) is still unknown. This strongly limits our understanding of flood risk and the effectiveness of mitigation efforts. Here we present the first quantification of Chinese PopF and its dynamics, based on newly-available population datasets for years 1990, 2000, 2010, and 2015 and on a flood map. We found that the Po…
