A multi-proxy study of changing environmental conditions in a Younger Dryas sequence in southwestern Manitoba, Canada — Comment on the paper by Teller et al., Quaternary Research Volume 93, 60–87 - Volume 94

  • Radiocarbon simulation fails to support the temporal synchroneity requirement of the Younger Dryas impact hypothesis

    Open Access•Ian Jorgeson, R P Breslawski et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2020

Fine-scale temporal processes, such as the synchronous deposition of organic materials, can be challenging to identify using 14 C datasets. While some events, such as volcanic eruptions, leave clear evidence for synchronous deposition, synchroneity is more difficult to establish for other types of events. This has been a source of controversy regarding 14 C dates associated with a hypothesized extraterrestrial impact at the Younger Dryas Boundary…

  • When is a wolf a dog? Combined geometric morphometrics and stable isotope analyses for differentiating wild from domestic canids on the Northern Plains

    Abigail E Fisher•ARTICLE•Plains Anthropologist•2019•Citada por: 2•Referencias: 96

Domesticated dogs (Canis familiaris) were an important resource for many indigenous groups, including Plains peoples. Plains people used dogs for hauling materials, as camp or village warning systems, as sources of food, and as ritual participants. The identification of domestic Plains dogs is complicated by their wolf-like body size, and from hybridization with Canis lupus and Canis latrans, which also appear in the archaeological record. By com…

  • Reconstructing Meat Consumption through Biomarker Analyses of Paleofeces

    Open Access•Jenna Battillo, Abigail E Fisher•ARTICLE•Ethnobiology Letters•2015•Citada por: 5

This mini-review outlines three underutilized approaches for studying meat-based biomarkers in archaeological paleofeces that we expect will increase in significance within the field. Myoglobin, stable isotope, and aDNA analyses all have untapped potential to inform meat-based dietary constituents

  • Isotopic and zooarchaeological investigation of later medieval and post-medieval cattle husbandry at Dudley Castle, West Midlands

    Abigail E Fisher, Abigail Fisher et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Archaeology•2012•Citada por: 3•Referencias: 17

Zooarchaeological analysis of a substantial assemblage of animal bones excavated from Dudley Castle, West Midlands, revealed two significant changes in cattle management in the late medieval and post-medieval periods: a statistically significant increase in size in the later 14th century; and a gradual reduction in slaughter age. To explore whether these altered husbandry practices were accompanied by modifications to the diet and environment of …
