A scoping review of preference-based instruments for measuring carer outcomes in economic evaluations
Carer-specific preference-based instruments have been developed to capture outcomes for economic evaluations but the body of evidence has yet to be collated to guide instrument selection and identify knowledge gaps for future research. The content of the three instruments appears relevant in an Australian setting. The influence of care recipient's health and well-being on carer QoL should be considered, along with spillover effects. A content and/or face validity analysis is required to confirm differences in item interpretation in Australian informal carers
Household expenditure of smokers and ex-smokers across socioeconomic groups
Smoking cessation leads to reallocation of spending across all socioeconomic groups, which could have positive impacts on households and their local communities. Less spending on alcohol by ex-smokers across the whole sample could indicate a joint health improvement associated with smoking cessation
Having fewer than 21 teeth associated with poorer general health among South Australians
Missing teeth was associated with poor general health status as measured by EQ-5D-5L disutility. The relationship was especially evident with respect to mobility and pain/discomfort. The findings emphasize the importance of oral health as predictors of general health
