  • Collaborative Planning in the Context of Deindustrialization

    Open Access•Thomas W C Hilde, Joanna Ganning et al.•ARTICLE•Urban Affairs Review•2024•Referencias: 14

This article investigates whether and how the contexts of the Rust Belt decline extend collaborative planning theory. We evaluate two collaborative planning projects in Northeast Ohio: (1) the Cuyahoga Greenways (CG), a regional trails project and (2) the Mahoning River Corridor Initiative (MRCI), a postindustrial river restoration project. Based on participant interviews and document analysis, we find that the projects are distinct in their cont…

  • Environmental Justice and Information Technologies

    Open Access•Wendy A Kellogg, Anjali Mathur•ARTICLE•Public Administration Review•2003•Referencias: 13

Scientific studies and resident testimony suggest that urban residents in low‐income and minority communities have been subject to an unequal burden of environmental pollution and inequitable environmental enforcement practices. A key component of the equitable development and implementation of environmental policies is the participation of citizens and community‐based organizations in the policy process. Such participation rests upon equitable a…

  • Social translucence

    Open Access•Thomas Erickson, Wendy A Kellogg•ARTICLE•ACM Transactions on Computer-Human…•2000

We are interested in desiging systems that support communication and collaboration among large groups of people over computing networks. We begin by asking what properties of the physical world support graceful human-human communication in face-to-face situations, and argue that it is possible to design digital systems that support coherent behavior by making participants and their activites visible to one another. We call such systems “socially …

  • Adopting an ecosystem approach

    Wendy A Kellogg•ARTICLE•Society & Natural Resources•1998•Citada por: 3•Referencias: 6

Through the 1970s and 1980s Great Lakes scientists advocated adoption of an “ecosystem approach”; as a framework for water quality policy, including development of remedial action plans (RAPs) for the 43 areas of concern in the Great Lakes basin. RAPs are developed by state and provincial environmental or resource agencies, often in consultation with local stakeholder or citizen advisory committees. The International Joint Commission's guidelines…

  • Local Government and Environmental Quality

    Open Access•Wendy A Kellogg•ARTICLE•Public Works Management & Policy•1997•Citada por: 1•Referencias: 2

This article describes results from an assessment of the status of local environmental protection mechanisms in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, an area typical of many in the Great Lakes region that is experiencing settlement sprawl and declining or stabilizing population and that has a history of industrial pollution. The study was motivated by recent trends infederal and state requirements, shifts in environmental management paradigms, and changing envi…
