Determinants of Intimate Partner Violence Among Female Youth in Tanzania
Co-occurrence of bacteria and viruses and serotype distribution of Streptococcus pneumoniae in the nasopharynx of Tanzanian children below 2 years of age following introduction of the PCV13
Introduction Pneumococcal conjugate vaccines have reduced severe disease attributed to vaccine-type pneumococci in children. However, the effect is dependent on serotype distribution in the population and disease development may be influenced by co-occurrence of viral and bacterial pathogens in the nasopharynx. Methods Following introduction of the 13-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV13) in Tanzania we performed repeated cross-sectional …
Psychological wellbeing among carers of children and adolescents with physical disabilities in North-Eastern Tanzania—a cross-sectional survey study
Introduction: Caring for physically disabled children, particularly in contexts where resources are often insufficient or absent, exposes primary carers to significant psychological strain. Our study aimed to determine the prevalence and factors associated with silicosis and impaired lung function among tanzanite mining community in northern Tanzania. We conducted a cross-sectional study, involving 330 miners and 330 peri-mining community members in Mererani mine…
Adaptive adjustment to the needs of families caring for children and adolescents with physical disabilities in north-eastern Tanzania

Health care workers’ self-perceived infection risk and Covid-19 vaccine uptake
Vaccination is the most cost-effective way of preventing Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) although there was a considerable delay in its institution in Tanzania. This study assessed health care workers’ (HCWs) self-perceived infection risk and uptake of COVID-19 vaccines. A concurrent embedded, mixed methods design was utilized to collect data among HCWs in seven Tanzanian regions. Quantitative data was collected using a validated, pre-piloted…
Inequalities in stunting among under-five children in Tanzania
Inequalities in stunting declined, differentials in wealth index and maternal education had increased contribution to the levels of inequalities in stunting. Reducing stunting among the disadvantaged groups requires initiatives which should be embarked on the distribution of social services including maternal and reproductive education among women of reproductive age, water and health infrastructures in remote areas

Performance of and Factors Associated With Tuberculosis Screening and Diagnosis Among People Living With HIV
All persons living with HIV (PLHIV) attending HIV care and treatment clinics (CTC) should be screened for TB at every visit and those positive on screening should be given diagnostic investigations. We evaluated the performance of the TB diagnosis cascade among PLHIV attending CTC between January 2012 and December 2016, in three regions of Tanzania, Dar es Salaam, Iringa and Njombe. We used logistic regression to determine odds ratios (OR) for fa…
The distance-quality trade-off in women’s choice of family planning provider in North Eastern Tanzania

Factors influencing the uptake of Voluntary HIV Counseling and Testing among secondary school students in Arusha City, Tanzania
Despite high knowledge on VCT services, the uptake of VCT among secondary school students was found to be low. Integration of youth friendly VCT services in secondary schools would increase VCT uptake among secondary school students. Supp…
