  • You are not what you eat during physiological stress

    Open Access•Lori D''Ortenzio, M B Brickley et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•2015•Citada por: 25•Referencias: 36

Variation in δ 13 C and δ 15 N values can be assessed to understand not only diet, but also the influence of physiological factors on an individual. The metabolic balance of an individual can impact isotopic signals in tissues that are forming during the periods of metabolic stress. Fluctuating δ 15 N values are associated with physiological stressors that alter an individual's metabolism such as infection, injury, or pregnancy. This study examin…

  • Dating and Context of Three Middle Stone Age Sites with Bone Points in the Upper Semliki Valley, Zaire

    Open Access•Alison S Brooks, David M Helgren et al.•ARTICLE•Science•1995

The extent to which the earliest anatomically modern humans in Africa exhibited behavioral and cognitive traits typical of Homo sapiens sapiens is controversial. In eastern Zaire, archaeological sites with bone points have yielded dates older than 89 -15 +22 thousand years ago by several techniques. These include electron spin resonance, thermoluminescence, optically stimulated luminescence, uranium series, and amino acid racemization. Faunal and…

    Open Access•Stephen Aldhouse-Green, Katharine Scott et al.•ARTICLE•Proceedings of the Prehistoric…•1995•Citada por: 18•Referencias: 10

Excavation by Charles McBurney and John Clegg during the early 1960s revealed a sequence with a Mousterian occupation, of which the principal finds were two bout coupé handaxes, stratified close to the base of a Middle Devensian hyaena-den accumulation. The human occupation should belong within the period 64–38 ka with comparative and stratigraphic evidence favouring a date within the earlier part of this range before 50 ka. The hyaena-den occupa…
