  • Polar primary aerosols across the ocean-sea ice-snow-atmosphere interface

    Open Access•Jessie M Creamean, L Miller et al.•ARTICLE•Elementa Science of the…•2026

Primary aerosols play a critical role in polar climate systems, influencing cloud formation, precipitation, radiative balance, and surface energy budgets. This paper provides a comprehensive synthesis of primary aerosol sources, transformation and removal processes, and broader atmospheric impacts in polar regions, emphasizing their links to ocean and sea ice biogeochemistry. These aerosols (including sea salt, primary organic aerosol, and primar…

  • Queer Transfigurations

    L Miller•ARTICLE•QED A Journal in GLBTQ Worldmaking•2023•Citada por: 8

The term “Boys Love” is the genre name for manga (comics), literature, film, TV dramas, and other media about male–male romance and sex that is usually produced by and for heterosexual girls and women. Normally abbreviated to BL, it replaces an obsolete Japanese term yaoi (still in play, however, in some Anglophone settings). Although BL media in Japan has been theorized and studied by critics and scholars at least since the 1980s, this collectio…

Geographic Information Systems (GIS) engages with a variety of important policy issues through linking social science data with spatial analysis and by demonstrating the importance of applied GIS in both the public and private sector. GIS, though commonly used in the realms of city planning and natural resource analysis, have a far broader range of applications ranging from analysis of ancient community interactions to modern social media data

  • Modern Girls on the Go

Alisa Freedman, L Miller et al.•BOOK•Modern Girls On The Go Gender…•2013

This spirited and engaging multidisciplinary volume pins its focus on the lived experiences and cultural depictions of women's mobility and labor in Japan. The theme of girls continues to offer a captivating window into the changes that women's roles have undergone during the course of the last century. Here we encounter Japanese women inhabiting the most modern of spaces, in newly created professions, moving upward and outward, claiming the publ…

  • Hope for the Future

Joseph Ciarrochi, Melanie Randle et al.•ARTICLE•The British Journal of Social Work•2012•Citada por: 6•Referencias: 49

High-quality foster placements can help a foster-child to thrive and can counter some of the risk factors normally associated with being a foster-child. Unfortunately, demand for foster-carers has been outstripping supply. The present study sought to identify the characteristics of people who have high potential to become a foster-carer. A large, representative sample from the general population (544 male; 544 female; Mage = 40.8; SD = 13) comple…

  • P2-260 Population-based prevalence of Duchenne/Becker muscular dystrophy (DBMD) in the USA

P Romitti, Paul A Romitti et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Epidemiology and…•2011

Introduction DBMD has an estimated prevalence of 1/3500 male births. Worldwide, this estimate varies, likely due to differences in diagnostic criteria, ascertainment, and survival. To date, no U.S. population-based DBMD prevalence data by race/ethnicity have been published. Methods In 2002, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention established the MD STARnet to conduct population-based DBMD surveillance in four U.S. sites. Each site conducts…

  • E-Petitions at Westminster

    L Miller, Laura E Miller•ARTICLE•Parliamentary Affairs•2008•Citada por: 15

The Westminster Parliament has been prompted to develop an e-Petitions system in light of the fact that similar tools are now well established in the Scottish Parliament and Welsh Assembly. The Number Ten e-Petitions site, too, has proved inspirational although discussions within Westminster about the development of a comparable system have focused on the risks associated with it. This paper describes the momentum towards a Westminster-based e-Pe…

  • Quantifying remaining forested habitat within the historic distribution of the cotton‐top tamarin ( Saguinus oedipus ) in Colombia

Open Access•L Miller, Lance J Miller et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Primatology•2004

Landsat Thematic Mapper (TM) data were used to classify forested areas within the historic distribution of the endangered cotton‐top tamarin ( Saguinus oedipus ) in Colombia. This species continues to be threatened by habitat destruction, and we observed a 31% decrease of the forested habitat within the tamarins' historic distribution in 1990–2000. It is estimated that since the establishment of some protected areas for cotton‐top tamarins and ot…
