  • Labial Tooth Wear and Culture

    Open Access•Pierre-François Puech, P Puech•ARTICLE•Dental Anthropology Journal•2018

Surface alterations observed on the anterior teeth of prehistoric humans suggest that incisors are involved in many uses related to ingestion, manipulations, and dental care activities. These culture-related uses can be distinguished in dental remains from throughout major periods of human evolution

  • Hominid lifestyle and diet reconsidered

    Open Access•Marc Verhaegen, P Puech et al.•ARTICLE•Human Evolution•2000•Citada por: 2•Referencias: 22

  • Maxillary canine microwear in Dryopithecus from Spain

Open Access•P Puech, François Cianfarani et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•1989•Citada por: 3•Referencias: 13

The three functional domains of the upper canines of Dryopithecus from Spain are analysed through microscopic examination. Evidence is presented that shows a food choice in concordance with open woodland habitat

  • Dental microwear features as an indicator for plant food in early hominids

    Open Access•P Puech, F Cianfarani et al.•ARTICLE•Human Evolution•1986•Citada por: 10•Referencias: 4

  • Hominoid Evolution

    Jeffrey H Schwartz, Robert B Eckhardt et al.•ARTICLE•Current Anthropology•1984

I review here the history of study of the relationships of extant hominoids (humans and apes) and many of the morphological and other (e.g., molecular, biochemical, and chromosomal) criteria upon which theories of relatedness have been based. Few morphological features emerge as uniting humans and one or both of the African apes, and, contrary to popular opinion, the nonmorphological data do not support a human-African-ape theory of relatedness t…

  • Dental microwear and mechanisms in early hominids from Laetoli and Hadar

    Open Access•P Puech, Henri Albertini•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•1984•Citada por: 13•Referencias: 10

The dentition of early hominids from Laetoli and Hadar provide evidence of “incisal stripping” and a shear‐grinding action for C /P3 complex through microscopic examination of wear facets on dental crowns. This masticatory pattern of dental wear resembles that of Papio papio and suggests behavioral analogies between early hominids and Papio
