Flood forecasting in a highly developed urban area
Dhaka, one of the fastest-growing megacities, is highly vulnerable to urban flooding due to rapid urbanization, inadequate drainage systems, and climate change-induced extreme weather events. This study develops a comprehensive urban flood forecasting system for a highly developed urban area of Dhaka City using the MIKE+ hydrodynamic model. The system integrates hydrological and hydraulic components, modeling complex interactions among surface ru…

Navigating the technological frontier
This paper explores the technological evolution of libraries from Library 1.0 to Library 5.0 between 1990 and 2025, emphasizing how these shifts have transformed not only user engagement but also the structure and functioning of knowledge repositories. Over successive generations, repositories have evolved from static, hierarchical collections to dynamic, interoperable systems. Metadata standards have improved to support semantic interoperability…
Factors influencing the adoption of artificial intelligence in libraries
The study aimed to identify the factors influencing the adoption of artificial intelligence applications in libraries, find out the associated challenges with the adoption of AI apps, and develop a framework to effectively implement AI tools in libraries. A systematic literature review (SLR) was applied to address the study's objectives. 30 most relevant research papers published in impact factor journals were selected to conduct the study. Findi…

The impact of livestock asset transfers on the livelihoods of the ultra-poor
This paper estimates the impacts of Livestock Asset Transfers on the livelihoods of the ultra-poor in West Bengal, India. It also increases the food expenditures of households and enables them to secure enough food to eat at least two meals a day. Furtherm…
Dhaka landfill waste practices
Two Dhaka, Bangladesh, landfills are explored to understand how management practices impact environmental quality and public health in the surrounding areas. A combination of research methods is used, such as geospatial buffer zone analysis, semi-structured observation checklist and qualitative interviews, to gain an understanding of the waste transportation, leachate percolation, and adverse health and environmental effects. A multi-ring buffer …

Modelling improved efficiency in healthcare referral systems for the urban poor using a geo-referenced health facility data
For both maternal and emergency/critical care services, significant distance reductions can be achieved for public, NGO and private facilities that avert burden on Sylhet City's largest public tertiary hospital. GIS-informed analyses can help strengthen coordination between service providers and contribute to more effective and equitable referral systems in Bangladesh and similar countries

Institutional design and organizational practice for universal coverage in lesser-developed countries
There is now widespread acceptance of the universal coverage approach, presented in the 2010 World Health Report. There are more and more voices for the benefit of creating a single national risk pool. Now, a body of literature is emerging on institutional design and organizational practice for universal coverage, related to management of the three health-financing functions: collection, pooling and purchasing. Strengthening institutional and organizational capacity for social health protection of the informal sector in lesser-developed countries
Reaching out to the poor and the informal sector is a major challenge for achieving universal coverage in lesser-developed countries. In Cambodia, extensive coverage by health equity funds for the poor has created the opportunity to consolidate various non-government health financing schemes under the government's proposed social health protection structure. This paper identifies the main policy and operational challenges to strengthening existin…
