The Agglomeration of Food Services and Their Colocation with Surrounding Complementary Services in the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area
This study explores the spatial distribution of food services and their colocation with surrounding complementary services. It investigates these issues within the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), utilizing point-of-interest (POI) data, spatial kernel density, the HDBSCAN clustering algorithm, and colocation quotients. The findings are as follows: (1) this research reveals a significant spatial agglomeration of food services near…

Does Receiving Informal Care Lead to Better Health Outcomes? Evidence From China Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey
Population aging has become a global challenge. Drawing data from Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey 2008, 2011, and 2014, this study examines the effect of informal care receipt on functional limitations and depressive symptoms among older people in China using lagged fixed effects model. Our findings suggest that receiving informal care is significantly associated with a slower functional decline. We also find that this effect varies…
Do polycentric urban regions promote functional spillovers and economic performance? Evidence from China
Although the literature often suggests that the economic prowess of ‘polycentric urban regions’ partly results from the ability of their constituent cities to promote functional spillovers through ‘borrowed size’, the empirical evidence remains scarce. This paper finds that polycentricity boosts the positive functional spillovers of producer service sector of city clusters beyond their boundaries only when city clusters have larger population and…
Projections in Various Scenarios and the Impact of Economy, Population, and Technology for Regional Emission Peak and Carbon Neutrality in China
Owing to the surge in greenhouse gas emissions, climate change is attracting increasing attention worldwide. As the world's largest carbon emitter, the achievement of emission peak and carbon neutrality by China is seen as a milestone in the global response to the threat. By setting different "emission peak" and "carbon neutrality" paths, this study compares the different pathways taken by China towards regional emission reduction to illustrate C…
Does informal care reduce health care utilisation in older age? Evidence from China
Studies in Western countries suggest that receiving informal care from family members may reduce utilisation of health care services. This hypothesis has not been examined in China, where the population is ageing rapidly. We assess the impact of informal care from offspring (children and grandchildren) on health care utilisation and expenditures among older people in China. Data are drawn from the 2011, 2014, and 2018 waves of the Chinese Longitu…
Understanding Health and Social Challenges for Aging and Long-Term Care in China
The second King’s College London Symposium on Ageing and Long-term Care in China was convened from 4 to 5th July 2019 at King’s College London in London. The aim of the Symposium was to have a better understanding of health and social challenges for aging and long-term care in China. This symposium draws research insights from a wide range of disciplines, including economics, public policy, demography, gerontology, public health and sociology. A …
Income-Related Inequalities in Informal Care
Lower household income is associated with lower intensity of informal care received, particularly for older people with more functional limitations. Policies are required to support low-income older people with more functional limitations
